Leslie Knope: Strong Women series

I am starting a new blog series about strong women and characters who are great role models and are power house inspirations.

Who better than to start with Leslie Knope?!

Leslie Knope is a fictional character from the show Parks and Rec (which first aired on April 9th, 2009 and ended on February 24th, 2015) and is played by the wonderful Amy Poehler. The show is set up like a fake documentary (mockumentary) in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana.

Leslie Knope is a driven woman with a love for her friends, waffles, and her job running the Parks department, being on the City Council and her dream of becoming the first female President of the United States. Her passion for improving the town she lives in and loves is contagious! She proves her enthusiasm by joining as many tasks forces as possible and finding the time to create these big beautiful binders that are like guidelines for whatever she is working on. She admires her friends and coworkers and loves to remind her lady friends how beautiful they are and that they are capable of everything men are able to do.

Leslie Knope is an inspiring character. She found her passion and has stuck with it for so many years. Leslie attacks her work with such a ferocity that sometimes it gets a little out of control but she’s okay with that. She see’s nothing wrong with wanting to better the future of her town, even if it takes one small project at a time to do it. She’s a source of empowerment and loves to encourage other females to do what they want, when they want. She’s got pictures of inspirational women in her office, including herself, which I think is brilliant!

Leslie can be somewhat overwhelmingly optimistic which can in turn lead her to be a bit delusional, but she surrounds herself with a lovely support system at work and out of the office to keep her grounded. Don’t get between her and her waffles. Also, despite her efforts to encourage and promote a healthier well-being in Pawnee, she hates salads.

Some excellent quotes:

One person’s annoying is another’s heroic and inspiring.

I always carry emergency smore’s rations in my car.

What I hear when I’m being yelled it is people caring loudly at me.

Do you think Leslie is a good role model? What do you attack with passion? Do you prefer waffles or pancakes? Share in the comments!
