It’s another wacky adventure into a mere glimpse into Nicolas Cage’s psyche. Or multiple Cage’s psyches, depending on your theories about the man.
Snake Eyes was directed by Brian De Palma (who also has a writing credit for the film). He has also directed Carrie (1976), Scarface (1983), and Mission Impossible (1996). It was also written by David Koepp, who has credits for Jurassic Park (1993), Spider-Man (2002), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). It stars Nicolas Cage (Rick Santoro), Gary Sinise (Commander Kevine Dunne), and Carla Gugino (Julia Costello).
When a slightly crooked detective, Rick Santoro, attends a well publicized boxing event with an old friend, Kevine Dunne, a conspiracy plays out and Rick is set up to go down for the murder. A big manhunt ensues inside the arena while Rick sets out to prove his innocence.
I was surprised at how well I enjoyed this film. I think this set was amazing! They did a great job of creating an engaging location. The movie plot is includes a manhunt and it’s hard to make the environment exciting when you’re in an isolated set/location. One of the things you’ll notice is that Nick’s character isn’t entirely nutty in this film but he does wear a pretty radical outfit. The ending is quite a smash!
I give Snake Eyes a 6/10 while Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 5.2/10.
