DC Delirium: Wonder Woman (2017)

I’ll let you in on a (not so secret) secret: I was never really into Wonder Woman until Gal Gadot came along (and its not just because she’s a babe).

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins, who is known for Monster (2003), episodes of Arrested Development (2004), episodes of Entourage (2006), and episodes of the Killing (2011). It was written by Allen Heinberg, who is known for episodes of Party of Five (1998), episodes of Grey’s Anatomy (2006), and episodes of the Catch (2016). More writing credits go to Zack Snyder, who has also helped write 300 (2006) and Sucker Punch (2011), and Jason Fuchs, who has also helped write Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) and Pan (2015).

The film stars Gal Gadot (Diana/Wonder Woman), Connie Nielson (Hippolyta), Robin Wright (Antiope), Chris Pine (Steve), David Thewlis (Sir Patrick), Danny Huston (Lundendorff), Elena Anaya (Dr. Maru), Eugene Brave Rock (the Chief), Said Taghmaoui (Sameer), and Ewen Bremner (Charlie). Special shout out to these two for both playing younger Diana: Lilly Aspell and Emily Carey. Also, double shout out to Lucy Davis for Etta, who stole the scenes.

Wonder Woman2

This movie starts on the Amazonian island of Themyscira, where Diana trains to be a warrior, despite her Queen mother’s protests. She becomes aware of a prophecy of the God Killer, the only thing that can kill Ares (their enemy). When a human man (Steve) crashes his plane near the island, she saves him but then has to fight a bunch of soldiers as there is a war happening in the rest of the 1918 world. She leaves Themyscira to help Steve, where they join up with The Chief, Sameer, and Charlier to sneak into Lundendorff’s party to cause mayhem.

I won’t say anything else due to spoilers.

Wonder Woman3

I was never much a fun of the DC Heroes (except Batman [[always]]), so the revamped DC Universe really made a splash for me. I rather enjoyed the new Superman films and the introduction of Wonder Woman put me on the fence. After finally decided to see the stand alone Wonder Woman film, I’m so glad I did.

First of all, the Amazons rocked so hard! I want to know more about Themyscira and the ladies! They were so badass. Second, I rather enjoyed Diana’s introduction to the normal world (always carrying that sword and shield) and her exposure to the beauty and ugliness of mankind. She was so sure of herself and then she wasn’t but she was stubborn as well. It’s a rather unusual coming of age story but I feel like it is kind of one of those themes. As well as super heroes/villains and powers and a bit of romance and the bits with Steve’s rogue group. Also, don’t forget humor. It was there!

I can honestly say that the No Man’s Landing fight sequence was my favorite.

I rate this as an 8/10 while Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 7.6/10.
